How the result works
Haze often lowers the difference between light and dark areas, especially in distant scenery. This checker analyzes the luminance histogram and visible contrast. A low-contrast result may also come from soft lighting, fog, glare or an intentionally muted edit, so review the image itself as well.
- Compare foreground and distant detail
- Check whether blacks look gray and highlights look flat
- Use Defog carefully to preserve natural color
Common questions
How can I tell if a photo has haze?
Hazy photos often have weak distant detail, lifted dark tones and a narrow contrast range. The checker provides an estimate from those tonal characteristics.
Is low contrast always caused by haze?
No. Flat lighting, glare, editing style and faded prints can also create low contrast.
Can haze be removed from an iPhone photo?
A dedicated Defog tool can improve depth and tonal separation, although results depend on the source image.
